Evocation of the city of Vouvant in the XI-XII century seen from from the south

The birth of Vouvant 
in Lower Poitou Between 1010 and 1020 William the Great, Duke of Aquitaine, 
built a monastery and a seigniorial fortress 
in the “ new castle ” to establish his authority. It is probable that he had already built a small castle, a hunting lodge, called “ the little castle ”.
